The third installment in the Final Fantasy XIII trilogy has been unveiled, and it’s called Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII.  The game will take place in Novus Partus, which is made up of 4 unique islands, and will tell the story of the 13 days before the supposed end of the world.

Some other details about the game have been announced, such as being able to alter Lightning’s appearance with armor and weapons, as well as directly controlling Lightning’s movement during a battle.  The Paradigm Shift combat system will still be in place however, so fans of the gameplay in the first 2 entries need not worry.

Final Fantasy XIII didn’t really tickle my fancy, mainly because of the ridiculous story and characters, but I know the majority of the public enjoyed Lightning and her exploits.  People can expect to see Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII hit the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 sometime in 2013.
