If you visit Blizzard’s blog, you’ll find a recent post on their 2012 Battle.net World Championship and other news on eSports, but no formal announcement of the convention’s cancellation. Once you click that article and read it’s content however, Blizzard indirectly announced that due to a “jam-packed schedule” BlizzCon will be put on hold until next year.
We’re excited to be showcasing Blizzard eSports on a truly global stage this year. We’re also heavily focused on getting Diablo III, Mists of Pandaria, and Heart of the Swarm into players’ hands as soon as possible. In light of our jam-packed schedule, we’ve decided to hold the next BlizzCon in 2013.
It’s no wonder Blizzard has their hands full. Diablo III being expected to release early this year, yet no announcement from Blizzard, World of Warcraft just received their Patch 4.3 (the last update before Mists of Pandaria gets released) so there is an assumption that Mists of Pandaria will come out before 2012 comes to an end. StarCraft II turns two years old this summer and there’s plenty of pressure on Blizzard to finally release its first expansion.
